Program and File Types

The links in the left hand column demonstrate a wide range of formats designed to meet every need and budget. Each format has its own advantages, and often one recording can be for multiple delivery modes.

Video: Can be delivered on DVD, multi-format disks, online downloads, video podcasting (or vodcasting) and mobile media encoding for iPods, phones and other devices.

Audio: Delivery on CDs (especially popular with commuters), online as downloads, as podcasts and for mobile media devices.

On-demand Lectures: Delivery can be online or on disk. These programs are audio recordings synchronized to digital slides. Their small file size allows them to be distributed to even those on slow internet connections.

Podcasts: This is a way for an ongoing series of programs to be automatically downloaded to ‘subscribers’ computers. It is possible to podcast a number of media formats.

Mobile Media: A variety of file types can be encoded for playback on mobile devices. This is an increasingly popular way to deliver education ‘any time, any where’.
